Creative writing group

I recently joined a creative writing group, there is also a magazine in the works. We are slowly producing short stories, poems and prose to put up on the writers blog. (check it out) So far Heather Robbins, J. Macfarlane and Mike Coote have contributed.
My strange effort is called Gully Suckers; check it. Oh and fingers crossed I'll be able to illustrate the stories...if the writers like my illustrations.
Above is my latest effort for Heather's piece.

Paper Companion

Whilst brainstorming with some paper characters... as you do, I realized how using physical objects can make you change how you approach illustration as something other than working on a flat surface, nothing new there. Just liked the aspect of introducing everyday objects and then changing the function. A bit of creative interaction with mundane items, cable tie rapped around a lamp with a stain in the background...nice. I dunno, there could be something about putting the most insignificant (recyclable) items to good creative use, that makes it even more appealing to me. Or maybe it reminds me a tad of Little Big Planet.

For the poor Pigeon

Sad illustration today. For Five years or more, I've been kept a close eye on by two loved up pigeons, sitting on the phone wire outside my window by day, and tree branches by mid-day. However I woke this morning by shrills, thought it was the usual seagull vs crow chorus. Sadly as you may have guessed the sight of the single pigeon sitting on its own, above what was left of the other made for a sad morning.

Zzzz

At my local Homebase they where selling off old books (good eh!) near the exit, for charity. I had a quick rummage, and found an old 1975 Marshall Cavendish published book on dreams "The world of Sleep". It had some weird and wonderful collage, it inspired me. It's funny how a seemingly unrelated trip can find it's way into your work, I like it...
Anyway, heres' the illustration that I did in response, some personal work.

Flight Of The Conchords

Here's a new image I've been working on. The great duo, Flight Of The Conchords.
More labored over than my usual work, and incorporating looser as well as tighter drawings, I like this blend. Hope to be working this way from now on.

Kid's can be cruel.

So, I'm starting to evolve the way I work, incorporate more flat colour, and generally hope to appeal to a larger audience. It takes me longer to produce these images', ( above) but ultimately I feel this could be more accessible to people. Given that the content airs on the darker side, the general idea is, with a better observed and polished illustration, art directors' may feel a more commercial appeal. (I'd appreciate any feedback if anyone happens to see this).
This image is intended for a part in a graphic story. This illustration is in context with a conversation about, how children can be unintentionally cruel. (Most of the rough ideas are complete).
The script is by Marc Shemanns, and I'll be contributing to it along the way, as well as illustrating. We are looking for interest.
I will still be working in my previous style, but adding other methods to my cannon. I guess it's timescales that give a variety of finishings.

The Green Goddess (is back)

I found an artical in the paper about the Green Goddess making a comeback, at 70. I was inspired to draw something. Perhaps painted a bit naively, I still like the shapes and simple appeal.

Warp

This image is to be used as part of an animation that is being put together. Although this picture appears quite vague, it is appropriate for the context in which it will be used, as it may also be chopped up and altered in various ways.
